It was around 5pm on August 15th when I discovered it gone from the City Hall bike rack at SW 5th and Jefferson. It was locked with a heavy-gauge chain combo lock with a blue plastic wrapping around the chain.

Stolen: Red Kona Moola
I had my bike stolen out of my garage the first week of August.
It is a full size Kona Luna Moola Red, with a fat seat that has LED in it.
All the gears are new and the ID# is H6H00875.

Update on SK Northwest hearing

Yesterday was the public hearing on the SK Northwest development case. Unfortunately I wasn’t there but here’s a report from what I’ve heard and read so far.
According to Evan Manvel of the BTA there were about 45 people there which is “significantly more than these hearings usually get.”
The BTA showed up to support the City’s ruling against the development and to, “deflect some arguments put forth by the applicants.” Here’s more from Evan’s post on the BTA Blog:
“The developers argued that the trail wasn’t a transportation facility, because it’s managed by Portland Parks rather than PDOT. They argued that they….weren’t impacting public access to the river and hence should not be required to improve such access. They also argued that bicyclists much prefer bike lanes to off-street paths.

There was interesting story in Sunday’s Oregonian about a rise in motorcycle fatalities in Oregon. The headline read, “Beware the thrill of the open road” and as I read it I couldn’t help but think how motorcyclists and bicyclists share common concerns and experiences.
BTA on the move
After a long search, the BTA has finally found a new home.
Their current digs (at SW 12th and Morrison) are cozy but cramped and the new space (at 1979 SW 5th) will give the growing BTA staff, “more space, private offices and better conference and work areas.”
And, in true Portland fashion, they’re hoping to move most of their stuff via bike power. According to director Evan Manvel,
More good vibes from ODOT
Judging from what I’ve read and heard recently, it seems like ODOT might actually be walking the walk in making an effort to improve their relationship with the bike community.
First, I reported about Charles Sciscione’s desire to “make amends” with the bike community after the fallout surrounding the St. Johns Bridge.
Then, this morning I had a nice talk with one of ODOT’s local managers, Joyce Felton. One of her projects is doling out cash and choosing “community enhancement” projects as part of ODOT’s big Delta Park to Lombard I-5 widening project.
Traffic safety education action on IShareTheRoad.com
Earlier this month, citizens, community groups, and city employees came together to raise awareness of traffic safety issues at the intersection of NW 9th and Lovejoy (more background here).

Public hearing for SK Northwest today
Dang. This is way late but the public hearing for SK Northwest is today at 1:30 at the Bureau of Development Services (1900 SW 4th Ave, 3rd floor).
To refresh your memory, SK Northwest is the company that is in escrow on a property just south of OMSI on the riverfront. They want to be exempt from allowing public trail access across their property. The city of Portland denied their application (in part after receiving 125 letters in opposition from the public). SK Northwest then appealed the decision.
The public hearing today will hear from both sides and I imagine there will plenty of lawyers in attendance. If you’re downtown and can sneak away, it might be interesting.

Locked up with cable lock at Lloyd Center at near Sears on the bottom level
around noon on Monday 8/14. Was in the mall no more than 15 minutes. There
was a sketchy hispanic male hovering near the bikes before I went in,
checking them out from a distance of 15-20 feet. He was probably the one,
although I have absolutely no proof.

Stolen: Cannondale Volvo MTB
I had my bike stolen on Sunday, after Bridge Pedal.
I had my bike chained up to the Fire Dept. fence next to Saturday Market. It was stolen between 12 and 2 by someone with bolt cutters. It was cable locked to the fence as the inside bike of 3 bikes. I had u-locked the outer 2 bikes. The hasp was cut.
My bike is Red with yellow decals, Cannondale. It is a Volvo edition.
It has pale Red anodized aluminum pedal cranks. I has a yellow Scwinn computer on the handlebars. Also on the handlebar is a brass onion dome bell. It has a plastic yellow bottle cage. It has a rear rack which attaches to the seat post. The mono shock has been replaced by a black twin shock.
They also took a black and gray helmet.
I do not have the registration #.
I bought this bike used and have babied it. I would love to get it back. It has been the best bike I have ever owned.
