Transportation advocates, neighborhood leaders, and elected officials huddled under a tent on a blustery morning yesterday to officially dedicate the on-time and on-budget Three Bridges Project on the Springwater Corridor Trail.
Portland Parks Director Zari Santner led the ceremony and introduced key players in the project, from the construction engineer to U.S. Congressman Earl Blumenauer.
Also on hand at the ceremony were City of Milwaukie Mayor Jim Bernard, a slew of PDOT staffers, Metro Councilors Rex Burkholder and Brian Newman, advocates from the 40-Mile Loop Land Trust, and others.

The Cross Crusade series continues this Sunday at Horning’s Hideout, 35 minutes (by car) west of Portland in North Plains. It’s the third race in the six race series.
This morning I huddled among a big crowd in the wind and rain as Portland officially dedicated the Three Bridges on the Springwater Corridor Trail (photos and a report coming later).
The event, which started in Sellwood, was an opportunity to interview some of Portland’s key transportation visionaries and leaders. To this end, I met up with Dan Kaufman, fledgling flimmaker behind CrankMyChain Bicycle TV. Dan is working with PDOT on a short film about Portland transportation that will be one of many shown at the big film event next weekend (10/28).
Sometimes, you just gotta wait for it. Here’s the situation…
When I was out of town racing the other weekend, I heard that back home my pal Jeffrey was sick and couldn’t race. He’d trained well at our Thursday early morning ‘cross practice, and he was excited for the weekend’s two races, neither of which were big, hyper ‘Cross Crusade events and so were tailor-made for training.
Falling ill wasn’t part of the plan.
