New club aims for “community exchange”

There’s an interesting new group in town called the Community Exchange Cycle Touring Club. I noticed their Yahoo Group linked from a listing on the Shift Calendar.
The group is based in southeast Portland and was started by 40-something electrical engineer Steven Kung, a veteran of several international bike tours and a professionally trained mechanic. Here’s more from Steven:
“We host community bicycle repair clinics, spin training, rider safety classes, road rides, and bike tours. Our goal is to build a global network of willing and ready bicycle touring communities, facilitate the initiation of recipricated exchange bicycle tours between these communities, and increase friendship-building among diverse cultures.”
The group also offers a free (donations welcome), weekly bike repair clinic and spin training class. Check out the calendar listing for more details.
