More stolen bikes recovered

Because of savvy BikePortland.org readers, we’ve recovered two bikes in the past two weeks. I just love it when this happens and it’s proof that by keeping your eyes open and regularly checking the Stolen Bike Listings we can leverage the power of community to re-unite bikes with their owners. Here are the stories of these two recent recoveries:

Here’s the original listing. And the story:

Great News! I am writing to let you know that an individual that had access to my wife’s bike was prompted to make contact with me after coming across my stolen bike posting on your website. I’ll spare you the details here, but you and the rest of the bikeportland.org community can be assured that the high visibility of your stolen bike postings were critical in recovering the bike. Chalk up another win!

Original listing. Recovery story:

“Saturday night someone emailed me about a Lemond they saw out front of a soup kitchen/mission on Grand and had thought it looked out of place so he checked up on your site and saw my posting. I put a notice on Livejournal to see if anyone in the area could go check it out (as my bike was my means of transportation and it was gone)…Sunday morning my roomate took me up there and my bike was just hangin out locked up to the bike rack. Everyone said it had been there a few days. It took a while but we got someone to chop off the lock. My bike is a bit broken (not too bad) BUT ITS BACK!” Thanks man!”

So far in the month of February I’m averaging about one stolen bike listed every day. I’m working with the guy behind StolenBicycleRegistry.com to add some cool features to the listings so stay tuned….and keep your eyes peeled out there!
