The Pedalpalooza craziness has already begun…and it’s only December. Check out the new interactive feature over on the Shift website. You can make the bike fun action figures say anything you want.

PSU Transportation class presentations
Chris Smith has posted PDFs and summaries of the presentations from the PSU Traffic and Transportation class. Several of them are bike-related and they provide great insight and ideas about how to improve biking conditions in Portland.
Bike theft awareness campaign
The Southeast Precinct of the Portland Police Bureau have started a bike theft awareness campaign.
Officers have been standing on the Hawthorne Bridge in the early morning and passing out forms for cyclists to fill out and return to them. According to one cyclist, who was stopped last Tuesday at 6:30 AM, the form asks for your driver’s license number, name, address, phone number and date of birth. It also asks for a thorough description of your bicycle including the approximate value and serial number.
GlobeTrekker Zoobomb clip
Back in April the PBS show “GlobeTrekker” came to Portland. They highlighted Portland’s eco-friendly transportation options and somehow ended up on a Zoobomb.
Dat Nguyen has found and posted the clip for all of us to enjoy (you’ll need QuickTime to view it).
Stolen: White Univega
My roommate’s vintageish women’s style univega w/ white fenders was stolen on Dec 6th around 7 pm at 50th and Lincoln.
It’s white w/ cruiser style bars. The Univega logo is in red.
Someone cut her lock.
There also should be two light mounts on the bars(i had just let her borrow my front light the other day!)
Please keep an eye out,
I appriciate it.

Bike Gallery employee wins National Championship
Just got word that Shannon Skerritt – Bike Gallery employee and Vanilla Bicycles sponsored cyclocross racer – has rode to victory in the 30-35 Masters race at Cyclocross Nationals!
OBRA’s Candi Murray says Shannon is the first-ever Oregonian to win a cyclocross national championship. (see this comment)
According to reports, conditions were treacherous. Rain, sleet, snow, white-out conditions, so bad that they’ve postponed the rest of the day’s races due to 50 mph winds.
Way to go Shannon! We’ll be waiting for the full scoop on your blog.

Oregon Cycling Magazine launches new site
Oregon Cycling is a free magazine available in coffee shops and bookstores all over the Northwest. They’ve got a host of solid contributors and it’s a quality publication. However up until now, their website left a bit to be desired.
Cast your vote to keep bikes in the budget
Clear your calendars for December 13th in order to speak up for bikes. If we don’t show up to this public forum on Tuesday night, funding for bike programs cut be at risk.
According to the BTA’s Jessica Roberts:
“This forum will directly influence which PDOT programs and services get cut. There will be live electronic voting on transportation funding priorities. It’s essential that bicyclists be well-represented, or we run the risk of bicycling programs being cut.”
Here are the event details:

KBOO Bike Show podcast!
Chris Smith of the Portland Transport blog got the ball rolling and has just posted the first ever podcast of the KBOO Bike Show! Yesterday’s show (which featured talk about BikeCraft and new bike laws) is already online for your streaming enjoyment.
Listen to the show (MP3)
Big thanks to Chris for making this happen and of course thanks to Ayleen Crotty and Sara Stout for doing such a great show.
Google and TriMet launch “Transit”
News4Neighbors reports that the Google and TriMet collaboration that I reported on back in October has officially launched. “Google Transit” is in beta and you can read more about it straight from the horses mouth on the Google Blog.
No sign of bike-specific route planning…but then again, we’ve got a local grassroots effort well underway. And loyal readers know Google has worked with Metro on a bike-mapping project in tandem with Google Earth.
“Super Legal Bicycle Ride” happens tonight
This just in from local biker Elly Blue:
“The Super Legal Bicycle Ride will be a rolling demonstration of cyclists riding safely, courteously, and in compliance with all Oregon laws. We aim to show that current state laws hinder traffic flow when they require cyclists and motorists to behave identically. We will educate the public about the benefits of acknowledging differences in size, speed, and safety between cars and bicycles.”
