Job Description
The City of Wilsonville is seeking a highly motivated intern to assist with transportation programs and projects. This position will be managed by the SMART Options division of South Metro Area Regional Transit, a department of the City of Wilsonville. This internship position will begin in June and end in late September.

Responsibilities:

The SMART intern(s) will be responsible for tasks associated with transportation related outreach and educational programs and events that promote bicycling, walking, riding transit, and carpooling. The candidate will need to quickly learn details of the Wilsonville area’s transportation options, including SMART and connecting transit systems and SMART/City of Wilsonville programs. Ideal candidates must be able to work some weekends and evenings to staff an information booth at events and assist with event coordination and logistics. Transportation within Wilsonville may be provided, but the intern must have reliable transportation to and from Wilsonville during days/hours that transit may not be available.

In addition to field work, the intern will also have opportunities to assist City staff with planning activities related to SMART’s Transit Master Plan update and the City’s annual bicycle and pedestrian counts.

Ideal Candidates

Preference will be given to students or recent graduates pursuing a career in planning, transportation, geography, public health, or a closely related field or demonstrated knowledge and passion for active transportation. A valid Oregon driver’s license is required. Ideal candidates would have the ability to lift boxes and/or bicycles of up to 50 lbs, have experience using Microsoft suite, GIS and Adobe, enjoy being active and outdoors in all types of weather and comfortable talking with various community members about transportation and the City of Wilsonville’s programs.

A set schedule will be one of the first tasks to work out and agree upon with management to best fit the needs of the program. Ideal candidates must be able to work certain event dates.
