California Trip - beach ride-7.jpg

Beach, California.

I’m still down here in sunny Orange County, California (Cypress to be exact).

The photo at right is from a ride I took with my stepdad and some of his friends to Huntington Beach over the weekend (more photos here). It was about 65-70 degress and nothing but clear, blue skies.

Have you gotten a chance to ride during the Holidays?

I noticed a group of fun-loving folks from the Shift email list met up for the first annual Kool Yule Ride.

Former Portland City Commissioner and now U.S. Congressman Earl Blumenauer has garnered major media exposure in recent weeks.

In early December the Oregonian profiled his rising clout on Capitol Hill. The paper called his position on the Ways and Means Committee, “his chance to become a national power player.” (Unfortunately, the tax provisions he championed became collateral damage in the recently passed Energy Bill).

Stolen Xmas eve: Blue and black early 80’s Pro Miyata. Drop handlebars with interrupter brakes. Black Brooks saddle, caradice bag with strap. Downtube shifters broken off – now has bar end shifters. DuraAce components. Front tube was painted black, as were the Miyata M’s on the lugs (or W’s, however you look at them). Attached image is not mine, but will give a decent idea. Gold is now black and forks are not the originals, but now silver. This bicycle has meant a lot to me.

Stolen Huffy Sunny Day Ride Tandem

Buffered Bike Lane with a bike symbol and arrow pointing forward

Some jerk stole my beautiful tandem out of my yard yesterday afternoon!! I am very sad. It is an incredibly conspicuous bike, so I have hope that if everyone keeps an eye out, it WILL be found.

It’s a yellow Huffy tandem with ape hanger handlebars. It says “Sunny Day Ride” on the chain guard and has two bells (one is brass and one is silver). The most unique thing is that the handlebars on the back broke off and a new stem was welded on for the back rider.

It was really stupid of me to have a cable lock on burnside but it’s a learning experience. The handlebars are black with no tape, there it has a black seat that has electical tape on it, and front brakes.
