Arvin the flagger

Posted by Jonathan Maus (Editor) on August 25th, 2006 at 3:30 pm

Over on IShareTheRoad.com I’ve just posted a story about Arvin Bradley. If you ride across the Hawthorne Bridge, chances are you know who I’m talking about.

[Ever seen a flagger this friendly?]

Read “Flagger brings happiness to the Hawthorne” on IShareTheRoad.com.

I love this guy! He always makes my day. I will miss him when he moves on to a new job site. Can we hire him as the official Hawthorne Bridge Ambassador? The other night I rode later in the evening, and he wasn't there. I felt not as safe crossing over the spot at the stop sign where bikes go from the bike lane to the bridge sidewalk without him in his orange vest with his stop sign & his happy smile.

I have to agree, Arvin has done an excellent job controlling a particularly sketchy intersection and is one of the friendliest folks I deal with every day. I would like to encourage everybody that commutes over the hawthorne bridge to be sure to thank him for doing such a great job!

He leaves around 6:30 PM everyday. But when he's there, he's awesome!

    Happy Friday, Arvin!

Arvin is possibly the most pleasant person I have ever met on my route. Everytime I ride past him a smile, a wave, a friedly hello. I've often thought of getting him donuts, a pop, something. I'm glad to hear that he is appreciated out there.

Considering the job he has. Last week I was on Hawthorne, where they are doing some road construction and an elderly man in a Buick was wanting to turn from the Safeway parking lot onto Hawthorne. The elderly man drove over the orange cones that seperate traffic from the construction zone and nearly hit a flagger. The job of a flagger is a dangerous one.

Good job Arvin, keep yourself safe and thanks for working to keep others safe and helping us all to remember to be happy and aware...

Arvin is definitely an asset to public safety! His friendliness, attitude, and compassion are exempliary and are a prime example of his unique character. The union hall that hires him must be proud to have such a fine and outstanding member representing them.
Good luck on your next flagging job, Arvin. I hope to see your smiling face at the next turn.
