My bike was stolen from our back yard in Sellwood on August 16. The bike was a Specialized Rockhopper from the mid 90’s. It was red with a rack on the back, toe clips, and had grey numbers written in a metallic ink on the crossbar (I bought it from rental shop a in 96). If you’ve seen it, e-mail dezza28@yahoo.com. Thanks,
Darren

Update: Spy photo of Coasting group on new Trek
[*Update: Kris Schamp from the Bike Gallery has posted some up-close and detailed photos of the Trek Lime.]
A while back I posted about how Shimano had chosen Portland as a pilot city to unveil their latest and greatest component group called Coasting.
This new group is supposed to revolutionize city bikes and appeal to a whole new group of people. Shimano is working with select companies to build bikes around it and one of them is Trek, who just wrapped up their big, secret, dealer-only get together in Wisconsin.
Update: Bike move spirit alive and well
It’s been way too long since I joined my cargo-loving compatriots on a bike move but I’m,happy to report that the bike move(ment) is as strong as ever! *Local and international media are taking notice.
Dan Kaufmann of CrankMyChain! caught a recent one on video. You can watch it on his website or download a crispy, Quicktime version.
Questions and true bike love at the farmers market
Last week I worked a table at the Interstate Farmers Market. I passed out free bike maps and stickers, talked to folks about bikes, and answered random bike questions.
As an ice-breaker I asked people to try and stump me with a question about bikes in Portland. I got quite a range of responses including;
Bakfiets on Broadway
A few weeks ago I was on NE Broadway and 15th when I looked up and saw this woman and her peculiar bike. After a moment or two I realized it was an authentic “bakfiets” (Dutch for container bicycle) straight from Holland…and so was the rider, given her strong, confident, blond, helmetless style.
Not surprisingly, she told me she imported the bike from her former home town in Amsterdam.
Bakfiets are common in Holland for cargo, family, pets, whatever. I think they’d do very well in Portland and I have a hunch we’ll be seeing more of these around town in the future.
