Share the Road Mural dedication

[Mural designer Sara Stout with
Hawthorne Auto Clinic owners
Liz Dally and Jim Houser.]

I love that headline.

Imagine…an auto clinic that believes so strongly in the health and safety of our streets that they put a mural full of pedestrians and cyclists on the wall of their parking lot.

At the dedication party last night there was live music, free food, a strong community vibe, and off course a fantastic and inspiring new mural.

Stolen: Blue Novara

Buffered Bike Lane with a bike symbol and arrow pointing forward

My bike was stoke in front of New Seasons grocery store on 7/26/06 at
9:40pm. It had a combination cable lock on it. No sign of the lock after
the theft.

The bike was a purplish electric blue Novara with Shimano gears/shifters
etc. A distinguishing feature is that it has the nice curved handle bar
extensions, but whoever owned it first installed them without removing the
foam handlebar grips and so there is a big buldge of foam at the start of
the extension.

Thanks for any help!

ODOT responds on St. Johns Bridge and wants to “make amends”

Buffered Bike Lane with a bike symbol and arrow pointing forward

I got a surprising phone call yesterday from ODOT regional manager Charles Sciscione. He was responding to my post back on June 15th titled, St. Johns Bridge still unsafe after 75 years.

I wrote that post out of frustration that ODOT was celebrating the 75 year anniversary of the bridge by touting the recent renovation as providing “better pedestrian and bicycle access.”

After that post I got a tip from someone at PDOT saying Sciscione came into the situation late in the game but that he had shown interest in bike safety issues and was warm to the idea of putting sharrows (shared lane markings) on the bridge. I encouraged cyclists to contact him and even emailed him myself asking for an update.
