Portlanders continue to rally around the tragedy the tragic fate of bike dancer Hollis Hawthorne.

Hawthorne, a founding member of The Bay Area Derailleurs bike dance troupe, suffered a serious brain injury over a week ago while operating a motorcycle in India. Hawthorne started the Derailleuers with former Portlander and Sprockette Eliza Strack and they performed together in Portland last summer.

Thankfully, the latest update from India is that Hawthorne’s condition is improving. She is breathing on her own and doctors are showing signs of cautious optimism about her recovery.

Since the accident, Hawthorne’s friends and family have raised well over $40,000 in their effort to hire a med-evac airplane to fly her from India to doctors that are waiting to treat her at Stanford Medical Center (their goal is $200,000).

Hawthorne has many friends in the Portland area and they have been working full-time to help bring her home. A benefit show is planned for this Tuesday night (3/10) that will feature dancing by the Sprockettes, and performances by the Yard Dogs Road Show, Japanther, Riot Cop, and other bands as well as a silent auction, kissing booth, and “many other surprises.”

For the Love of Hollis! – A benefit to bring Hollis home
    316 NW 4th Ave.
Doors at 7pm, show starts promptly at 8pm.
Wear gold! $5-150,000 at the door!!!

Thank you so much for your blessings D Shrinivasa rao. I will contact you if there is some ground support that Hollis & Harrison can use. Truly kind of you to offer help from Chennai.

Thank you to everyone who came out, volunteered, performed, and/or kept Hollis in their prayers. We are still waiting on an official tally, but it’s looking like we made about 5,000 dollars towards the Get Hollis Home fund! Thank you so so so so much!
