Job Title

Event Volunteer

Cycle Oregon

Job Description

WHAT IS CYCLE OREGON?
Cycle Oregon is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming individuals and communities through bicycling. Each year we host rides throughout the state of Oregon. Proceeds from the rides go to the Cycle Oregon Fund, which helps preserve and protect the special places of Oregon and supports community development projects in the regions through which we ride. To date, Cycle Oregon has awarded 341 grants totaling $2.6 MM through our community and signature grants.

Cycle Oregon also provides approximately $150,000 each year to community groups for the services they provide on our events. They assist greatly in planning our events and provide hundreds of volunteers whose passion and dedication make our rides a success.

ABOUT VOLUNTEERING
Our events would not be successful without our dedicated team of volunteers. They are a special group of people who are every bit as important to Cycle Oregon as the riders and they have just as much fun (and probably sweat a lot less).

Volunteer positions range from supporting riders on course at Rest Stops and in SAG vehicles to assisting at our overnight sites at the Gift Shop, site set up, and everything in between.

The most important trait we look for in a volunteer is a good attitude-it is key to the event’s success. Volunteers work an average of 8 hours a day, and some work as many as 12 hours. All positions require working as a team, so good communication skills are a must. Most volunteers will spend the better part of the day on their feet, and some positions require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds repeatedly. Bonus points for volunteers that can drive box trucks and pull trailers. Due to the nature of the events, we ask all volunteers commit to the full duration of an event.

WHAT DO YOU GET?
Every Cycle Oregon volunteer will tell you they choose Cycle Oregon for the opportunity to see the unique parts of Oregon they may never have thought to travel to, for the chance to interact with locals, and to be part of an amazing community of riders and volunteers that make up our family. On the events, volunteers will receive a name badge, hat, and event t-shirt. Additionally, we’ll provide you with a comprehensive volunteer notebook, meals, lodging and all the equipment needed for the job. For weeklong volunteers, you’re invited to a wrap up party that includes dinner, drinks, and lodging. Plus, you’ll get a million thanks from a thousand riders!
