Rock battles, modern murals & Vancouver beer: Pedalpalooza picks for weekend 3

art for the future

Tour some of Portland’s marvelous modern murals Saturday.

It’s the final four days of Pedalpalooza 2016, and the marquee ride of the weekend is the battery-powered thumper Loud and Lit on Saturday night. But don’t let that limit your agenda. Here are some of the others worth checking out.

Zeppelin vs. Floyd vs. Emo
Only the first two of these are an official pairing along the lines of Bowie vs. Prince, but it’s funny that the moody scheduled their ride against the hairy. Friday, meet 7 pm and 8:30 pm respectively, ride 7:30 and 9 pm.

Art for the Future: Amazing Modern Murals
Ha, I cheated! This is my ride. You should come. Saturday 11 am.

Party in the USA Ride
America. “There will be a few stops and we’re ending at the beach for beer pong. Bring a swimsuit!” Saturday, meet 1 pm, ride 2 pm.

New Orleans Jazz Funeral Ride
“BikeLoudPDX presents: jazz, flowers, veils and coffins: we’re memorializing Portland’s traffic deaths Big Easy style.” Saturday, meet 2 pm, leave 2:30 pm.

Madonna vs Janet vs CBGB
The race is on to succeed Bowie vs. Prince. This is another two-way battle facing an unintended third contestant — but all will converge to join Loud and Lit at 9:30. Saturday 7 pm and 7:30 pm respectively.

Vancouver Beer Revealed!
“Break the chains of the Portland beer scene for an afternoon and come explore what your friendly neighbors to the north have to offer!” Sunday 3 pm at the Expo Center.

Pedalpalooza Awards Party
Brought to you by the planners behind Pedalpalooza and also the geniuses behind Grilled by Bike, it’ll offer awards for this year’s festival plus “silly competitions and patriotic grilling.”

I love the Portland murals. I was giving a friend who was visiting a quickie tour of Portland and he kept commenting on the murals. It reminded me why I love this city.

If you’re in town July 2nd, please try and make the New Orleans Jazz Funeral! More people at the event = more media attention = more pressure on state and city gov. to start taking Vision Zero seriously.

RSVP on the Facebook page and share the event with your friends!
