Album release party tonight for daughter of missing Cycle Oregon rider Mark Bosworth

Tonight at Velo Cult will be an album release party that will have special meaning to many people in the local bicycling scene.

Kelly Bosworth grew up singing songs and playing music at home with her dad Mark Bosworth. Mark is the man who went missing from a Cycle Oregon campsite in September 2011 and has never been found. Now Kelly is releasing her first album and it will take place at a bike shop and music venue that has cemented itself as an important community gathering place.

Here’s more about Kelly’s journey to music (taken from her website):

In 2011, Kelly’s father, Mark, had a rapid and unexpected resurgence of cancer in his brain, a cancer he had battled on and off for several years. Mark was on a trip in Southern Oregon when he went missing, likely wandering off from his campsite out of confusion. The family held informal vigils at the house, with as much food as could possibly be eaten and as much music as could possibly be sung. But in the absence of her father’s voice, the music was too close to the grief. It was months before Kelly started to find comfort in the music she had shared with her father, but since the day she picked up her guitar again she hasn’t been able to stray too far from it. She started writing songs as a way to reach out to her father and to communicate her grief, strength, and love. Kelly and her audiences find emotional fulfillment in these songs, as well as a connection with the realities of loss we all experience.
