Not to be outdone by the happenings in Bend this weekend, Portland has its own slate of Halloween-inspired bike events going on.
The fun actually started this morning with the annual “Superheroes” edition of the Breakfast on the Bridges event. But if you missed that, don’t despair, there’s plenty more where that came from. Below is a quick guide to the weekend’s events:
Sunday, October 30th
Dia de los Muertos Downtown Parade
Organizers of this community parade emailed me a few days ago saying they’d love to see a bunch of people on bikes. Parade starts at 3:00 pm at SW 4th and Yamhill, but show up at Someday Lounge (125 NW 5th) between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm for sugar skull decorating, kids activities, free hot chocolate, and snacks. After the parade there will be an after party at Someday Lounge with free raffle and live mariachi music.
Monday – Halloween – October 31st
Cully Halloween Bar Crawl
Get to know Northeast Portland’s coolest new ‘hood with a bar crawl amongst other bike-riding, costume-wearing friends. Meet at Cozy Pub (4579 NE Cully Blvd) at 6:00 pm. More info here.
Halloween Bike Ride & Mobile Dance Party
This is the big one folks. Organized by people with major fun bike ride experience. This is an all-ages ride and expect some surprises. Costumes and decorated bikes highly encouraged. Meet at Dawson Park (Stanton and Williams) at 6:00 pm and the ride will roll out at 6:30 to meet up with the Grimm Bike Ride (see below) in Southeast Portland. More info here.
A GRIMM Halloween Ride
In true Dia de los Muertos fashion, this ride will tour local cemeteries, stop for brief moments of silence at ghost bikes, and more. Meet at 9:00 at Colonel Summers Park (SE 20th and Belmont) for pictures and free face painting. Organizers say games of “Capture the Beer” and a group dance of Michael Jackson’s Thriller are likely to happen. More info here (FB).

Pre-Halloween costumed North Freak ride tonight also; meets at Irving Park at 10 PM, and leaves the park at 11.
I’m not so sure Portland needs many costumes to have a freak ride.
