Even with fall upon us and some torrential rains over the weekend, there were still plenty of good times on bikes to be had last weekend. Like last week, I thought I’d recap some of the events with a front page post so those of you that missed out can experience some of the fun.
Park(ING) Day on Friday was a big success, with well over 30 parking spots throughout the region being turned into parks for the day. At Metro’s park on NE Multnomah, people enjoyed picnics on the grass that stretched across two parking spaces. Check out the report on Metro’s website.

The Grand Central Bakery Fair further connected Portland’s local food and urban farm artisans with bicycling. The event featured canning, food, and home skill demonstrations alongside a bike demo section. Local cargo bike makers and dealers offered demo rides and there were a series of family biking events. Last weekend was also a big one for cyclocross with a double-header out at Hood River Valley High School. Judging from the weather and the photos, there was plenty of mud and the field sizes were huge. It looked to be a fitting kick-off to what will surely be a massive ‘cross season. Of special note on Sunday was the debut race of the new Oregon Junior Cyclocross Series, which is a new, OBRA-run program where junior and high school students from around the state compete on school teams for points. Yes, in Oregon, cyclocross is the new football. Check out photos by Jose Sandoval.
Our friend Jeff Owen from the City of Wilsonville wrote in with a report and photos from their Tonquin Trail and Graham Oaks Nature Park ride. He said about 50 people showed up. Check out the photo recap here.
Hope you enjoyed the weekend. If you had a fun bike adventure, feel free to share it in the comments below… and stay tuned tomorrow for our Weekend Event Guide.

Sigh
Hey, that’s GCB business manager/co-owner Bob Kerr wrenching with his kids in the middle pic.
I really wish I could have seen some of the parking day spots…
I was out there on Sunday watching the juniors and high schoolers out racing cross. Those kids were awesome – really put it all out there. I hope this takes off like HS mountain biking did in Colorado.
I’m missing the boat somehow, so often I only find about all this cool stuff after the fact… Great to live in a town with so much cool stuff happening though.
