As part of my daily work here at BikePortland, I track a lot of projects. The other day, prompted by a question from reader Jessica Roberts, I began to think about all the bike projects that are currently delayed and languishing for one reason or another.
Below are updates on five such projects. Each of them has been planned, discussed, and promised, but none of them have broken ground.

Stolen:2010-08-16
Stolen From: On Monday night, someone came into our home off Lombard and Albina and took the bike from the mud room. I fell asleep before bringing it into the house and the door was unlocked. 🙁
Neighborhood: North Portland
Owner: Stephanie Neil

Reward: $100
Description: It’s a 54cm forest green Terry road bike. It has white decals with Terry on the main frame. It is a 21-speed and has Campy shifters. The bike has noticeable scrapes in the metal on the right brake handle and the right pedal from sliding on the pavement in an accident last summer. The seat also has torn leather on the right front and back of the seat from sliding on the ground. The paint is scratched, but the tape on the handle bars is new. It has a rear rain guard from Planet Bikes, as well as attachments for a rear and front light. This bike and I survived a near fatal crash, and it has a lot of sentimental value in addition to monetary value. I’m not sure of the model or year, and sadly I do not have the serial number or any photos of the bike. I can be reached at 503-705-0054.

Bikes bad for business? Not in Portland
Few anti-bike ideas are as stubborn as the age-old cries of “Bikes are bad for business!” In Portland, when our bikeway network was gaining steam in the 1990s, PBOT faced battle after battle when they tried to stripe bike lanes on streets adjacent to businesses. As recently as this past May, KATU-TV (our local ABC affiliate) promoted the fallacy with their infamous “Bike path to nowhere” story which was a fitting follow-up to their “Businesses fear city bike plan might drive people away” piece which aired after the 2030 Bike Plan passed last October.
But times are changing, at least in Portland.
