April has turned into quite an amazing month of bike events in Portland and this weekend keeps the momentum strong.
Filmed by Bike is The Big Deal this weekend. There’s a big opening night street party on Friday and screenings through the weekend. But that’s not the only thing going on this weekend (not by a long shot!).
Sit back and plan your weekend by perusing all the excellent events below…
Friday, April 16th
5:30 – 11:00pm: Filmed by Bike Opening Night Street Party
It’s here! Portland’s own Filmed by Bike fest. Great bike movies selected by a jury of your pedaling peers. It all goes down at Clinton Street Theater and it kicks off with a big party in the street. This is always a night to remember. Be there or regret it.
12:00pm – 1:00pm: Business on a Bike
Meet at the submarine near OMSI for this conversation-paced, business networking bike ride.
9:30pm – all night long: Dropout Bike Club Monthly Ride
Freak bike riders rejoice. It’s time to meet other freak bike lovers and ride together into the night.
Saturday, April 17th
9:00am – 1:00pm: SOLV Peninsula Crossing Trail Clean-up
The Peninsula Crossing Trail is a gem in North Portland — but it often gets cluttered up by garbage and other urban detritus. Come help other volunteers clean it up.
10:00am – 2:00pm: Columbia Park Spring Bicycle Fair
Join the Friends of Columbia Park (4339 N. Lombard) for their first annual bike fair. They’ll have a bike tune-up station, affordable helmet sale, a teddy-bear making clinic for the little ones, and a lot more. Free admission (and free popcorn).
10:30am: Wanderlust Men’s Ride
This “weekly ride for men” leaves from Mio Gelato in Northeast Portland and will explore the local area, have some fun and then grab lunch.
Noon – 6:00pm (Sat-Sun): Oregon Bike Polo Championships
Portland Bike Polo will host this tournament. Show up at Rose City Park (NE 62nd and Thompson) to watch all the action. Learn more about the local polo scene here.
2:00pm – 4:00pm: Daybreak Cohousing Grand Opening
This bike-friendly new housing development in North Portland wants you to come and check them out. At the event you can learn more about cohousing, see their excellent bike amenities, meet City Commissioner Amanda Fritz, and more.
Sunday, April 18th
10:00am: Ride with Rex
Rex Burkholder wants to be Metro President and he wants to spend some time with you on a bike. There are two loops to choose from (15 and 30 miles) and the event will explore some great local routes. Snacks and drinks will be provided at the half-way mark of both loops.
All day: Estacada Time Trial Series
Test yourself against the clock on a beautiful local time trial course. The OBRA season is heating up!
9:00pm: Zoobomb
It’s a Portland tradition like no other. Join them for a night you’ll never forget.

Monday Night PIR novice racing kickoff party is Sunday evening 5-9PM at Laurelwood Pizza Co! Everyone is invited.
Details:

It’s the De Ronde S&M ride for me (planned by sadists, ridden by masochists). Nothing like spending a Sunday puking at the top of every hill (I mean e-v-e-r-y hill)for no glory.
See you there!
Jonathan (or anybody else with tips) – any advance word on events on May 7-14? Wife and I will be in town and we’re just curious if there’s any notable bike-things going on that we could check out.

Saturday says the article, unless you are puking on your own.
Nearly 70f over the weekend.
SOLV Clean up day at the Gateway Green Site with Northwest Trail Alliance:

Saturday from 9am-1pm meet at the Gateway Transit Ctr.
Kevin #3, you should keep an eyeball on the shift calendar – good happenings are always there: http://shifttobikes.org/cal/viewmonth.php?month=05&year=2010#08-1320
Clinton St Pub is my usual hangout on Friday nights, which means I won’t be hanging out anywhere near Clinton St tonight will the huge crowds that will probably be there… I wouldn’t mind seeing some of the films, but that’s just too much commotion in a spot I like to think of as my weekend get-away…
the Columbia Park Spring Bicycle Fair sounds like a good place to trailer my toddler to… I may have to check that one out…
Sam – that’s awesome. Thanks!
Not bike related, but this sunday is the 2nd annual Portland Pinbrawl tournament at Ground Kontrol. Almost all of the 128 spots are filled, but spectators are welcome. Tournament starts at 11am and goes till it is over. Keith Elwin, who is ranked 2nd pinball player in the world, will be in attendance.
Check out http://groundkontrol.com/ for more info, or to register to play.
