Weekend Event Guide

A serious and important community forum tonight kicks off a weekend of haywire bike fun and creative activism. Who says we can’t have it all? Share your events and plans below.

Thursday, January 28

6:00pm – 8:00pm: 21st Century Civil Rights: Transportation Health Equity Community Forum
How can improving our transportation systems improve our communities, our health, and our lives — that is, for all of us? Come learn about and discuss these issues at the PSU Native American Center.

Friday, January 29

7:00am – 9:00am: Breakfast on the Bridges
Leave a few minutes early for your downtown commute and take a break on the Hawthorne or Steel Bridges for a cup of coffee, a donut, and some good company.

Saturday, January 30

10:30am: Wanderlust Men’s Ride
Downtown architecture edition! Ride easy, take the lane, and stop to check out buildings that catch your eye. Meets in the middle of Holladay Park.

11:00am: Tweed Ride
Meet at the Skidmore Fountain in Old Town in your finest get-up for Portland’s Inaugural Tweed Ride and potluck tea party.

2:00pm: Scrapper Bike Ride!
Nonprofit SCRAP provides Portland’s answer to the scraper bike movement. Meet at 1:00pm to decorate your bike and helmet with re-used materials, and ride at 2:00 with a film crew in tow–the purpose of the ride is to create a Filmed by Bike entry. Meet at the Vera Katz statue on the Eastbank Esplanade under the Hawthorne Bridge.

4:00pm – 7:00pm: Pinball Pedal
Bring your jar of change along on this tour of Portland’s finest pinball machines. Leaves from Pedal Bike Tours, 2249 N Williams Ave.

Sunday, January 31

11:00am: BUILD IT Ride
Meet at the Bipartisan Cafe (7901 NE Stark) to explore neighborhoods and routes that stand to benefit from passage and funding of the Portland Bike Plan 2030.

2:00pm: BUILD IT Work Party
Gather at the BTA office (523 NW 5th Ave) to help prepare for the BUILD IT rally and testimony at city hall. Make buttons, signs, postcards, and spokecards. Some materials provided, but feel free to bring your own as well.
