A scenic, challenging 55 mile loop winds into the foothills of the Cascades and back to Canby. Once again, the central rest stop will feature food provided by Chris King Precision Components. Chris King makes the best quality components in the world. Chris’s passion is cooking, so this rest stop will be special! Finish off a great century with a bucolic 45 mile loop in historic Champoeg country. Each loop begins and ends at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds in Canby.

New map, improvements will make I-5 bridge crossing easier

Heading to Vancouver will be getting easier.

If you’ve ever tried to navigate across the I-5 bridge from Portland to Vancouver (or vice versa) you know that it’s not for the faint of heart.

With a disorienting combination of sidewalks, a freeway on-ramp and off-ramp, and several high-speed streets that access hotels and the Janzten Beach shopping center, it seems like it was designed and planned before bicycles even existed (or clearly before they were considered a viable means of transport).

Those pesky drains.

On Sunday, a group of Portlanders took it upon themselves to make several popular bike routes a bit safer and more pleasant to ride on.

Daniel Johnson conceived of the ride back in January and the first one went so well he decided to do it again.

Writing on a local email list, Johnson explained that the premise for the ride is simple: “My plan was to make art around potholes in order to make people look at them, think about them, and talk about them… to show people that we don’t have to just live with wrecked streets, we can do something about it.”

Meet At – Portland-Hawthorne Hostel, 3031 SE Hawthorne Blvd
6:30pm – 9:00pm, First Tuesday in May – September

The PPP returns for its fourth season–and this year we are extending the season! A casual bicycle ride traversing approx. 3-5 miles with a different route each time. The end destination is a mystery park or park-like setting. The term “park” will be used liberally here, so expect the unexpected! At the endpoint we’ll enjoy a picnic dinner. Eating will be potluck style, so please bring food and drink to share (preferably vegetarian/vegan). Please also try to bring your own silverware, plate, and cup. We will also stop at a grocery store along the way. Rain means covered location.

A Eugene bicyclist was killed Monday when he was hit by a car in a downtown intersection.

Police said the 27-year-old man was making a left turn onto eastbound 13th Avenue from southbound Willamette Street about 3:45 p.m. when he was hit by a car headed north through the intersection on Willamette.

Witnesses said the bicyclist smashed into the car’s windshield and his bicycle was thrown about 20 feet in the air. He was pushed through the intersection, thrown over the car and landed on the roadway in front of a busy FedEx/Kinkos.

Witnesses and police said the man was not wearing a helmet.

His name was not immediately released. Police were working to notify his family of his death.

bike pornographer.

Portland’s famed film provocateur, Reverend Phil Sano (aka Revphil), is at it again.

On June 13th at the Clinton Street Theater, he’ll debut Bike Porn 2: bikexploitation. He just posted a preview which you can watch here (I would embed the video but…umm…I decided not to. Watch it and I think you’ll understand why (warning: not safe for work)).

It’s been just about one year since Revphil first steamed things up with his swanky, cycling-inspired cinematic soirees. After that raunchy debut, Revphil took his Bike Porn on the road and now bike lovers across North America will never look at their bikes quite the same way again.

On Sunday June 22, the City of Portland will transform a six-mile loop of streets in North Portland into a temporary park. From 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, people will be free to reclaim their streets without fear of high-speed motor vehicle traffic.

The event is called Sunday Parkways and it’s Portland’s first-ever attempt to mimic the highly successful “ciclovia” events that take place in Bogota Colombia (as well as many other cities around the world). On Sunday’s in Bogota, 70 miles of streets are transformed from high-speed motor vehicle thoroughfares to pedestrian plazas and millions of people come out to play.
