Portland State University’s new President Wim Wiewel (pronounced “vim veeval”) should fit right in at the downtown campus.

Wiewel professed his love of bikes in recent stories published by the Oregonian and the Associated Press.

The Oregonian reported that Wiewel is from Amsterdam and that,

“he says Portland feels like home. He loves to ride bicycles, drink microbrewery beer and is used to daily forecasts of 55 degrees and rainy.”

An Associated Press story reported that the 57 year-old Wiewel,

“owns three bicycles and said he was only a little bit daunted by the hills of Portland.”

PSU is home to thousands of daily bike trips, overflowing bike racks and an on-campus bike co-op which is slated for a major expansion later this year.

Mr. Wiewel thuis begroeten!

I was so excited to hear about you on OPB and hear you speak to what attracted you to Portland…all those fietsen on the streets and feitspad…made you feel at home. Welcome to your [new] home.

– Todd

Jonthan, Perhaps the PSU bike community should organize a welcome bike party for him and his family. Bring out the bakfiets! Or perhaps organize bikecaid (motorcaid sans motor) from the airport to PSU?

Wow a real one from Amsterdam, now we know who to ask about green boxes and such. Seriously he seems like a nice guy, a few years back I went to a PSU open house and the then president did not seem to come across very nice, he was all about business.
Welcome!

PSU gets better and better, and all this happens when I am graduating this summer. I get to miss the new max line, the \”dutch\” president, and the new rec building. Can I have a refund?

That\’s *Dr.* Wiewel, thank you very much.

Maybe we can ask him to hold the world leaders hostage for *five*million*dollars*
and then move the frickin\’ Sauvie Island Bridge.
