On Monday, the city of Portland installed a bike box in the SE corner of W. Burnside and 14th streets in downtown Portland — the same intersection where Tracey Sparling was killed nine months ago.
This is the eighth bike box the City has installed in the past four months since the first one went in at SE Hawthorne and 7th.
It’s been just over a year since Clever Cycles open their doors in Southeast Portland, and now they’ll be closing them.
Co-owner Todd Fahrner says that a lack of business is not in the problem. In fact, it’s just the opposite.

A week from today (July 9th), Portland City Council will take an important vote on the Columbia River Crossing project. On June 24th, in advance of a meeting of the CRC Task Force, the entire Council signed onto a letter of support for a project option that many believe would lead to a $4.2 billion, 12-lane mega-bridge.
But as of today, according to the Portland Mercury, one member of Council is now getting cold feet.
In a city with its share of adventurous, daring, eccentric, bike-riding women, the story of Annie Londonderry feels right at home.
In 1894, Ms. Londonderry (her real name was Annie Cohen Kopchovsky) embarked on an audacious journey — a solo bicycle ride around the world.
Her expedition was lost to history until her great grand-nephew, journalist Peter Zheutlin, started digging through old family artifacts, letters, and foreign and domestic newspapers to uncover her story.

PDX Pedicabs and the Old Town/Chinatown Neighborhood Association have teamed up to produce a 45-minute audio tour that they say will take pedicab passengers, “back through the layers of Old Town history”.
This new “eco-tour program” is made possible by pedicabs that have been outfitted with an audio system that plays a presentation written by “neighborhood insiders and cultural specialists”.
