Local framebuilders to display at Cycle Oregon’s bike expo

Framebuilders from all over Oregon, including eight from Portland, will participate in the “Made in Oregon Bike Expo” to be held during the 20th annual Cycle Oregon ride.

The event will take place September 10-11 during the ride’s layover day at Diamond Lake.

Collisions prompt Water Bureau to seek bike safety solutions

Hoping to prevent a serious collision between their service trucks and bicyclists, the Portland Water Bureau is discussing ways to improve safety around their facility on N. Interstate Avenue.

Concerns about bike safety bubbled up seven months ago when a bicyclist riding south on N. Flint Ave. collided with a Water Bureau truck that was turning right from Broadway into N. Wheeler Ave. (see map below).

When a similar collision happened again on July 31st (luckily neither resulted in serious injuries), it raised a red flag at the Water Bureau and now they’re hoping to come up with a safety fix for this problematic intersection.

In a small, non-descript garage in Portland’s Foster-Powell neighborhood, 33 year-old Sean Chaney puts the finishing touches on a titanium cyclocross frame.

Last fall, Chaney quit his “unfulfilling” job as a financial analyst and decided to chase his dream of building bike frames — and his Vertigo Cycles brand — full time.

“I’ve been wanting to do this for over ten years, but I’ve always been talked out of it either by friends, or by myself.”

1997 Blue Cannondale Silk Path 500 with 7-sp Nexus rear hub and headshock. Black seat-post mounted rear luggage rack. Purchased new at River City Bicyles on 8/8/97. Has River City Bicycles sticker on seat tube.

Stolen Sears Roebucks Co unknown from 1971

1971 (era) black 3 speed women’s cruiser with fenders. Paint is not great with rust here and there. The sticker on the crossbar has a scratch though it. It has white pedals and a torn up San Marco seat. The rear tire is deflated and the rear brakes are too loose to work well. The gear shifter is not the original and the cable for it is not connected to the hub.
