Update on Single Speed ‘Cross Championships
I heard from Dani Dance this morning. She’s organizing the upcoming Official UnOfficial Single Speed Cyclocross World Championships.
When I first mentioned this event back in July, I didn’t have many details and now I’ve got the latest scoop.
New corporate-sponsored racks in the Pearl

Thanks to a partnership between Kryptonite and the City of Portland, bike parking just got a lot easier for students at the Pacific Northwest College of Art.
Last Friday, work crews installed 9 staple racks (that’s room for about 18 bikes), in what was formerly one car parking spot. The new racks are directly adjacent to the entrance to the school’s main building at NW 13th and Johnson in the Pearl District.
Cross Crusade off to record start
The 2007 Cross Crusade kicked off in fine style yesterday at Alpenrose Dairy. Race organizers reported that a record 1,078 racers took part in the action (that’s up from 760 at the same event last year!).
The course was a challenging mix of bumpy downhills, tight turns, and obstacles.
Earlier this week, Race Director Brad Ross told me he had concerns about the capacity of the course to handle so many racers at once. From what I heard (and experienced while racing myself), it all worked. Most people I spoke to said they had a great time out there.

Cyclist survives run-in with MAX

Somehow, a cyclist survived a run-in with a MAX train on N. Interstate Avenue today.
Here’s the Oregonian’s report:
“A bicyclist who was hit by a MAX train and ended up lying flat underneath it seems to have gotten away with non-life-threatening injuries, rescuers said.
