Is Oregon the best state for bike racing?
Two things have recently come to my attention that have got me thinking the answer to this question might just be, Yes!
First, comes news that the premier issue of Road Bike Action magazine has a blurb about the Oregon racing scene that calls the state a “racing hotbed.”
The article goes on to say that,
“If you happen to live in the Portland area, from the first week in June to the second week in July, you could race seven days a week.”

In the shop with bike tool maker Brett Flemming
[This is the third installment of my “In the shop” series. Check out the first two on Joseph Ahearne and Tony Pereira.]
At the end of a cul-de-sac in a non-descript, Vancouver Washington subdivision, is the home and shop of Brett Flemming, an extraordinary machinist, inventor, and head mechanic for one of the largest bike shops chains in the country.
As service manager for the Bike Gallery and owner of Efficient Velo Tools, Brett is known for his encyclopedic knowledge of bike repair and his flair for creating high quality bike tools.
Theft victim "giddy" over recovery of stolen bikes
It’s been way too long since I last shared a stolen bike recovery story, so I was very pleased to get a call last week from local theft victim Michael Kloeppel.
Back in December, Michael lost his entire fleet of beloved, high-end bikes when thieves hit his Woodstock home.
How was your weekend?
I hope you got the chance to take in the sun over the weekend.
Did anyone make it out to the season’s first mountain bike race?
I didn’t do much riding, but I went to OMSI with my daughter and spent some time soaking up the sun on the Eastbank Esplanade… along with a steady stream of cyclists.
