Next Thursday (11/29) Gordon Price will give a free presentation on the effective integration of transportation in high-density environments, with an emphasis on land use.
Price is a former City of Vancouver, B.C. Councilor and current Simon Fraser University and University of British Columbia Professor who teaches, researches, and writes extensively on urban development and planning.
The Multnomah County Bicycle Pedestrian Citizens Advisory Committee (BPCAC) — which advises the Board of County Commissioners and Transportation Division on matters involving bicycle and pedestrian transportation within the County’s road jurisdiction — is announcing an opening for several positions.
Here’s the word from Multnomah County’s Michael Lynch:
“I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know that the Multnomah County Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee is searching for a number of new members. Particularly with the recent bike safety issues, the committee’s advisory capacity to the County Commission has gained importance.
Last week, Portland City Council approved the final list of projects to receive grant funding through the City of Portland’s Community Benefit Opportunities program.
This program, which is administered by the City’s Bureau of Environmental Services, was created to fund community projects in neighborhoods impacted by the East Side Big Pipe project.
I know this is a bit late, but I thought some of you might appreciate hearing a few of the speeches from the “We Are ALL Traffic” press conference. This event happened on the steps of City Hall last Friday (11/16) and was a precursor to the big Rally on Saturday.
Last week, the Bike Gallery announced the formation of a bike safety fund as a memorial to Brett Jarolimek.
Barb Grover, who’s managing the fund, says donations from the community have already begun to roll in. She was particularly excited about a sizable gift from Northwest Portland-based bike parts manufacturer Chris King Precision Components.
Chris King has announced a $5,000 donation to the fund and has pledged another $5,000 in additional matching funds. (The Bike Gallery already plans to match first-year contributions up to $10,000).

Tomorrow is the final stop in the 2007 River City Bicycles Cross Crusade.
The event will be held at Hillsboro Stadium and with the rain we’ve had the past few days, the race is sure to be muddy and challenging.
The event will also be the official Oregon Bicycle Racing Association (OBRA) State Championships. Race winners from each category will be crowned with the distinction of being the fastest ‘cross racers in Oregon.
Last year, the Hillsboro course was one of the muddiest all year, and tomorrow should be no different. Check out my photo gallery and report from that event as a preview to what might be in store for tomorrow.

Equipment
All bikes are legal – Mountain bikes, ‘cross, fixed gear, cruisers, unicycles, etc. But take heed: courses will favor those on ‘cross bikes – so choose your weapon wisely! (UCI races will conform to UCI rules on bikes)
Membership & Licenses
OBRA membership required for all riders. Single race memberships are available for $5.00. Season OBRA memberships are available for $10.00.
Directions
From Portland take Hwy 26 west to exit 62A. Head south on Cornelius Pass Rd, turn right onto NW Evergreen Pkwy, then turn right onto NW 229th Ave. Stadium is visible from Hwy 26.
It might be a bit rainy and cold, but that doesn’t stop the bike fun, rides and events in Portland.
