It’s been way too long since I last shared a stolen bike recovery story, so I was very pleased to get a call last week from local theft victim Michael Kloeppel.
Back in December, Michael lost his entire fleet of beloved, high-end bikes when thieves hit his Woodstock home.
I hope you got the chance to take in the sun over the weekend.
Did anyone make it out to the season’s first mountain bike race?
I didn’t do much riding, but I went to OMSI with my daughter and spent some time soaking up the sun on the Eastbank Esplanade… along with a steady stream of cyclists.

Local bike mechanic and bike polo promoter Tori Bortman made her way onto a full-page photo in a recent special section of the Oregonian that profiled how 40 Portlanders make their living.
You might remember Tori from a story I did on her last year. In addition to being a mechanic at the downtown Bike Gallery, Tori runs Gracie’s Wrench, a private bike repair school she runs from her home.

I just heard that long-time bike advocate, Portland Bicycle Advisory Committee member, and former Alice B. Toeclips Award winner (1999), Sharon Fekety fractured her arm in three places after wiping out on a pair of MAX train tracks last week.
