As expected, the Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA) has launched their search for a new Executive Director.
The search comes after former director Evan Manvel left the organization back in July.
Policy Director Scott Bricker was named the organization’s interim director and has manned that post for the past month. Bricker plans to apply for the executive director position and said he thinks, “It would be a dream job”.

Hotel Monaco (on the corner of SW 5th and Washington) in downtown Portland offers some nifty package deals.
Their latest is the “Carless Vacation”. It’s linked to from their home page with the headline, “Planes, Trains, and no Automobiles” (gotta love that huh?).

Hey all, join us in the picturesque beauty of Eagle Fern (near Borning) as we whip up succulent smoothie sustenance for riders at the Portland Century this Sunday (8/26)!
We still need a few folks to help operate the two fully off-grid, direct drive bike blenders at the Eagle Fern rest stop this Sunday morning. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate appropriate technology while supporting the fabulous cyclists in this 100 mile ride, and Portland’s wonderful bikey culture generally.
Please contact me if you can help out.

We are still recruiting volunteers to work checkpoints on Saturday (8/25). We need people who can report to Jamison Square in Northwest by 11:45 am and work until 3 pm. You may get wet because most of the checkpoints are water related. You are also encouraged to dress up and bring any water ammo or toys you may possess.
There will be a party at the race finish line with refreshments for helpers. Please email me if you are available.

Imagine standing a few feet from a whirring pack of racers as they speed by, elbow-to-elbow, at over 40 miles per hour, throwing sparks from their pedals as they hammer into sharp turns.
Tomorrow night is your chance to experience this when some of the nation’s top professional bike racers battle it out at the sixth annual Health Net Portland Twilight Criterium.
TriMet is in the process of taking a long, hard look at how bikes mix with their transit services. They’ve recently launched a major survey effort and they’re feeling the pressure of an increased presence of bikes on their MAX trains and buses.
To help with find solutions and analyze the situation, they’ve recently hired a Bike Programs Intern. His name is Colin Maher.
To find out more about him, and TriMet’s thinking on bikes, check out the brief interview below…

This Saturday’s SS Pussycat is a great opportunity for ladies and transgender cyclists to strut their stuff.
The event — which is strictly “no boys allowed” — is styled after alleycat races made popular by bicycle messengers. Participants will receive an “assignment” and then venture through the city, stopping at predetermined checkpoints along the way.
