Tonight at Portland International Raceway, mountain bikers will race shoulder-to-shoulder on a mix of singletrack, whoop-de-doos, and banked corners usually reserved for motorcycles.
The Portland Mountain Bike Short Track Series is a popular weekly event that is promoted by Portland Racing and runs each Monday evening from tonight until the end of July.
Organizer Kris Schamp says,
“The course is in great shape and we plan to keep adding new, interesting twists to it each week. Chris King will be out there every week (except July 16) to serve free lemonade and provide mechanical support and we’ll have the usual PB&J sandwiches and fresh fruit, so people can hang out after they’re done racing and watch the pros battle it out.”
Last year, Kris loaned me his bike and I had a blast!
Just a few seconds ride north of Kenton, you won’t find a more accessible, well-run and sure to please mountain bike event than this one. Bring your nobby tires, your family and friends and get ready to enjoy the races!
To get a feeling for what it’s like out there, check out this little slideshow of my images from last year:

This sounds like a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I\’ve got a college class every Monday until 7:00p. I believe I will be skipping class at least once to get down there and race!! 🙂
