Volunteers give Alpenrose its annual facelift

Volunteers cleaned up Alpenrose Velodrome Sunday.

On Sunday nearly 70 volunteers showed up for the annual Alpenrose Velodrome Clean-up Day. They painted the entire track and bleachers, patched cement on the track surface, and performed general maintenance.

The deteriorating track needs TLC every year before track season heats up.

Support for Sunday’s effort came from local bicycle component manufacturer Chris King Precision Components. Company founder Chris King flipped pancakes and served fresh coffee to volunteers. Lunch was provided by OBRA and Pizzicato.

With the track buffed into shape, stay tuned for track season! I have made a personal promise that this will finally be my year for getting out there.

For info about beginner classes, training sessions, and other track events, check out OBRA’s track page.

(Thanks to Chris Distefano from Chris King for photos and reporting on this event.)

I feel like a tool for not showing up to help with the track clean-up day. Thank you all who did show up. Your efforts will be enjoyed by many. DG

If you feel really guilty, you can pledge money to the new track. $100/year for five years is a $500 pledge.

Cleaning up the track on a beautiful day. I have the sun burns to prove it.

I was just out by the velodrome a few weeks ago! I didn’t even know they still existed… very cool area, seems like you’re out in the countryside.
