Are you ready to party…naked?

That’s right folks. The big and gnarly World Naked Bike Ride and Dance Party is tomorrow night.

If you missed last year’s ride, I can tell you that it was amazing (read my report here). It was probably the most memorable ride I did all year. We had hundreds of naked people riding through downtown Portland. Panties littered the bike lane. Bystanders, in disbelief at the sight, left their cars, removed their clothes, and wanted to join us. Lots of high fives and smiles (even from the cops).

It was a glorious experience (except for the few folks who met the pavement with their naked bodies…ouch!).

Cycle the Well Field

9:00am, Please arrive by 8:30 to check-in. Ride will end around 1:30pm.
Join the Portland Water Bureau and the Columbia Slough Watershed Council for a bicycle tour through Portland’s Groundwater Protection Area located in the Columbia Slough Watershed. Groundwater Specialist Randy Albright of the Portland Water Bureau will lead the ride and reveal the mysteries of groundwater and explain how we can all protect this important groundwater resource. The ride passes through 16 miles over relatively flat terrain, at a slow/moderate pace. Ages 12 and up are welcome. Bring your bike, helmet, water and lunch. Dress for the weather. Space is limited, so register early!

Tonights films: “What To Do In Case of Fire?” (German comedy/drama, 2001), story of six German anarchists forced to reunite after twelve years’ separation; G8 protest footage, video of mobilization against the G8 at the Summit in Rostock, Germany, as well as previous years’ footage.

Love courier service sets up shop in Portland

Remember that group from Austin, Texas I wrote about in March?

Well, they’re on tour and they’ve set up shop at 318 SW Taylor Street in downtown Portland. Pink calls themselves a “love courier service” and I stopped by today to find out more.

I met Jaclyn today and she (along with her staff) were busily getting ready for tonight’s volunteer orientation and opening work party.

Timo “Cap’n Pastry” Forsberg was in rare form last night. He led scores of hungry and hearty Pedalpaloozaers on his Night of the Living Donut ride.

At the first stop, Staccato Gelato, the entire sidewalk was taken over by cyclists. The nice folks at Staccato made a special batch of their wonderfully yummy donuts (they don’t usually bake on Thursdays) to the grateful crowd.

steel frame, front sprockets a bit bent but it still shifts fine, 18-speed, grip-shifters (I don’t know the technical term), toe clips had leather strap on one side, white synthetic strap on other side, had a black and white squeaky toy cow, four stickers on frame, one read “my other bike is a bike”, the second:”there’s no playa like home,” the third,”if you were riding you’d be happy by now,” and the fourth: “salmon nation.” Actually, there was also a sticker for the Community Cycling Center, where I bought it. There were fixtures for a front cat-eye brand headlight and planet bike rear light.Black metal water bottle holder. Gel seat.

Our new digs.

I’m writing this from my new office! This morning, Elly Blue and I moved into an office in inner southeast Portland. We’re in the ActivSpace building on SE 8th and Main (map here).

Our downstairs neighbor is none other than Black Sheep Bakery, home of the famous bike-thru window.

My office-mate, Elly Blue, is the wonder-woman behind the upcoming International Towards Carfree Cities Conference. You might also remember her as the author of some tremendous editorials on BikePortland (she’ll be writing more soon).
