The Belmont Area Business Association has received a $5,000 grant that will go towards a project to install two on-street bike parking facilities on SE Belmont Ave (you might recall my story on this project from back in February).
The grant was awarded April 23rd at the annual meeting of the Alliance of Portland Neighborhood Business Associations (APNBA).

I’ve been watching my comment counter creep up to 20,000 the last few weeks and as I write this is already up to 20,106!
It took about 15 months to reach 10,000 comments and less than half that to reach 20,000.

Just a reminder that tomorrow PDOT is hosting a special edition of their monthly Bicycle Master Plan Rides. Last month we rode in the wake of a potential funding cut, but now we ride with renewed confidence on our journey to making Portland a better place for bikes.
Portland’s beloved mini-bike dance team the Sprockettes, will soon embark on their very first tour. They’ve been tapped by bike-loving brewer New Belgium to perform at four stops on the company’s popular Tour de Fat.
Starting in July, the ladies will board a converted, veggie-oil powered Greyhound bus for their first stop in San Francisco, California. From there, they’ll perform in Truckee, then Seattle, and their last stop will be a special, homecoming performance in Portland on August 18th.
Congrats to the Sprockettes for landing such an awesome gig. Have a great trip and we can’t wait to see you in Portland!
This weekend marked the return of my sandals and my Sidis.
On Saturday, I rode the girls to Peninsula Park to partake in Kelly Peach’s four-day Ballyhoo fest. We chilled with friends (old and new) in the gazebo and were treated to a feast of fresh made donuts and pedal-powered strawberry smoothies (compliments of Kyrstin Westwind from Sprocket Smoothies).

On Friday night in Vancouver, Washington, a teenager struck and killed a cyclist with his car. The driver claims he was distracted when a bee entered his vehicle.

Every year since 2003 Casey Martell of Portland Rose Pedals Pedicab has given rides to weary Waterfront Village attendees. This year was no different, until Thursday afternoon.
That’s when Martell says he was approached by Rose Festival security personnel and told he must leave the park once the Waterfront Village carnival began.
According to Martell, the security guard said he was not welcome because he’s not a registered vendor (even though Martell was not even in the actual Village). Martell tried to explain that he doesn’t need a vendor license to ride around Waterfront Park because he doesn’t sell anything (he only accepts donations). Unfortunately, says Martell, the security person would “not listen” to him and quickly spread the word to the cops.
