It looks like the real action on Sunday night’s Zoobomb started after I left…
Portland Mercury reporter Matt Davis has the story about what happened when they did a run down Highway 26 from the Zoo to Goose Hollow (affectionately known as the “Hellway”):
A kids bike safety program run by the Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA) in Albany (25 miles south of Salem) was robbed over the weekend.
According to BTA Executive Director Evan Manvel thieves broke into a storage trailer and took nine Giant brand bicycles. The bikes were used in bike safety programs that reach nearly 75% of all fifth-graders in Albany.
“The loss of the bikes impacts its current classes as well as future efforts. With an insufficient fleet, kids will lose on-bike practice time.”
The City of Gresham has announced a public celebration and grand opening for the completion of Phase 1 of the Gresham-Fairview Trail.
The event — which coincides with National Trails Day — will kick off at 10 am this Saturday (6/2) and will include a formal dedication and festivites along the trail at NE Holladay St. and NE 201st Avenue.
Here’s a heads up on Oregon’s Share the Road license plate bill (S.B. 789) from BTA lobbyist Scott Bricker.
He just called from Salem to remind us that the bill has come a long way since I wrote about it last month. It has made it through a full Senate vote and through the necessary House committees.
Brand new black and gray Specialized Sequoia roadbike, frame height 54 centimeters, stolen from SE Portland between 5/29/07 and 5/30/07.

A reader just sent me the link to an audio essay that ran on OPB yesterday. It was created by writer, and recent Portland transplant (from San Francisco via Boston), Elizabeth Moore.
**This position has been filled***
Job Title – Web Designer
Company/Organization – River City Bicycles
It feels awkward to write about myself, but several folks have written in wondering why I haven’t mentioned the story about BikePortland in the June issue of Oregon Cycling Magazine.
Writer Ellee Thalheimer — who also teaches yoga for cyclists at River City Bicycles — interviewed me downtown a few weeks ago and wrote a nice story about the site. She even snapped a few photos in my front yard.
Then for some reason editor Karl Benedek decided to put it on the cover.
The article isn’t online yet You can check out the full article on the Oregon Cycling Magazine website.
I found a little trick that lets me embed Flickr slideshows into my posts. My goal is to figure out how to use Flash to create slideshows with audio (if you know how to do that please get in touch).
For now, let me know what you think of this slideshow from Sunday’s Zoobomb (place cursor near top for controls, near bottom for thumbnails):
mountainbike, front and back wheels don’t match, water bottle rack, seat pack, brand new cables and brake pads, peddles make a clunking sound on incline
