Predictibility and a call for new bike laws

Buffered Bike Lane with a bike symbol and arrow pointing forward

“Ride predictably!” is a common mantra from both motorists and bike safety advocates.

There’s a perception among non-cyclists that our behavior is at best terrifyingly confusing and at worst suicidal and malicious. Cyclists themselves even complain about near-misses with other bikers, particularly at intersections with stop signs.

How was your weekend (10-2-06)?

Many folks are saying that last weekend was the last summer-ish one of the year. Whether you believe them or not, the last few days were nearly perfect riding weather.

Besides a quick ride around the neighborhood with my girls last night, I enjoyed a weekend at Camp Namanu (near Bull Run on the Sandy River) for a friend’s wedding (here’s the happy couple on a tandem at the Bunny on a Bike Ride).

I didn’t get out to Alpenrose for the big Cross Crusade kick-off, but I heard that a record 798 of you did! Ayleen Crotty of OR Bike was there and from the look of her photos it looked like a fantastic event. If you raced or watched, I’d love to hear how it went.

There was also some bike move action, a woman’s only mountain bike ride, and of course the weekly Zoobomb last night.

Whether you rode with friends, with an organized ride, or just did your favorite loop by yourself, I’d love to hear about your adventures.
