Seth Hosmer, a 31 year-old Woodstock neighborhood resident and racer with the CMG Racing/Alpine Mortgage Cycling Team set a new hour record Saturday at the Alpenrose Velodrome.

According to OBRA‘s Candi Murray Seth took advantage of “ideal conditions” and pedaled his bike around the fabled banked course just over 166 times in an hour for a total of 44.64438 km, beating the previous record (set by Todd Duncan in 2005) by only .39 kilometers. Seth rode 27.73 mph for an entire hour!*

In their ongoing effort to reach out to new cyclists, PDOT has started a program aimed at getting seniors aged 60 and over riding again.

Officially named the Older Adult Three-Wheeled Bicycle Program, the program is already proving to be a big success.

According to PDOT literature, in Holland and Germany people over seventy-five years of age make around half of all their trips by bike or foot, compared with only six percent of Americans sixty-five and older.

How was your weekend (9-25-06)?

[Editor’s note: I did a “How was your weekend?” post a few weeks ago and had a good response so I thought I’d try it again. Since I can’t make it to all the great events and I don’t yet have a staff of reporters, I’m hoping all of you can share your weekend bike experiences. If the response is good I’ll do this every Monday.]

Portland Car Free Days (Day 2)

[A scene from
Car Free Days]

There was a bunch of fun bike stuff happening this weekend. I made it out to Car Free Days on Friday (report) and Saturday (photos) but that’s about it.

Did anyone do the family ride with the Portland Wheelmen out at Sauvie Island? Or how about Ben’s “Avoid the Lloyd” bike move?

I regrettably missed a cool volunteer opportunity with the Community Cycling Center and the Village Bicycle Project. They were loading up hundreds of bikes to ship to Africa (which I reported about back in August).

And how about you eager ‘cross racers…how did the season’s opening race out in Hood River go?

Thanks for sharing your weekend bike adventures, feel free to link to your photos, websites or blog posts.
