At 9:45am on 7/20. My awesome old GT mountain bike was stolen from the corner of Ainsworth and Interstate last night at 7:30. It’s a 1991…serial # 9012564…black paint job with splotches of purple and maroon on it…it has a rock shock in the front…Shimano XT components…the tell-tale GT stamp on the back of the top tube behind the seat post.

Last month, I dropped by Last Thursday on Alberta to visit local artist Carye Bye. I was pedaling pretty slowly, gawking at the art, the oddly-dressed hipsters, the musicians, and the improbable bikes when someone in a car behind me honked their horn and I reluctantly sped up.
Then, Someone on a bike ahead of me swerved away from a car nosing its way through the intersection.
Carye was doing a brisk trade, but just starting to enjoy herself. It’s becoming increasingly stressful to set up her table, she said, due to competition for sidewalk space. Later, I walked a few blocks down the street and back, and could barely move through the claustrophobic crush of people squeezed together on the narrow sidewalk.
The Ecotrust building in Northwest Portland is one of my favorite places to work; it’s quiet, connected, and caffeinated.
It’s also home to eco-friendly global retailer Patagonia. I passed by their storefront the other day and noticed an in-store bike rack and curiously bikey signage. I had to investigate.
I met employee Tim Reinhardt and he told me that as of June, they’ve started their own bike commuter challenge. According to Tim, at a recent managers meeting, each store was asked to come up with three initiatives to “reduce the store’s ecological footprint.”
When some cyclists got wind of a Jammin 95.5 picnic event at Grant Park on Saturday many in the community urged them not to attend. There was a concern that if any cyclists showed up it would just incite the radio station’s fans and tarnish an already tense situation.
Jasun Wurster disagreed. He thought a public park was the perfect place to peacefully demonstrate the community’s concerns about the situation, so he organized a bike picnic. Wurster set up a website with information and notified the Portland Police Bureau to make sure they were well aware of the situation and his intentions (they were).
My 17″ Fuji Boulevard FS mens mountain bike was stolen on July 17, 2006 from PSU. It has a black frame, with red white and silver accents. I have attach a picture of it as well. Serial number is CF3C03250.
