[Report by ride leader Ben Salzberg via the Shift list. This is part of our ongoing Pedalpalooza coverage. See all our reports and photos here.]

The taco ride is a victim of its own success. A lot of people really love to ride their bikes and eat tacos, it seems. Over 100 this time!

We had 4 stops, which I called the week before to warn.

This Sunday is the North Portland edition of the City of Portland’s Sunday Parkways event.

Compared to last year, Sunday’s event will be much larger, with two loops and over 7 miles of closed streets and organizers tell us there are also a lot more bands, food vendors, and activities planned. Most of the action will be at the three parks along the route; Kenton, Arbor Lodge and Peninsula.

Ben Ramsdell in April.

The Oregonian reported earlier this week that Ben Ramsdell, the man who was seriously injured after being intentionally run down by Johnny Escwheiler on SE Clinton nearly two years ago, will receive a $100,000 from Eschweiler’s insurance company.

Escwheiler — who underwent a temporal lobotomy at age 25 — was found guilty except for insanity by a Multnomah County judge back in April.

The case has taken so long to resolve because Eschweiler has not cooperated with his own insurance company. Ramsdell’s Lawyer Mark Ginsberg told The Oregonian that:

Last night, a hearty group of Portland bike fun elders headed north to Vancouver to bid aloha and pay respects to our fine friend Todd Boulanger. Todd was laid off by the City of Vancouver a few weeks ago after years of admirable service as a transportation planner (with an expertise in bikeway design).

A fitting send-off was in order. After all, Todd has almost single-handedly spread the idea of bike fun in Vancouver. With his help, that city has a fledgling movement of bike activism and a bike spirit that is just beginning to awaken.
