Bike Mechanic – Job Description

Summary:
The Bike Mechanic is a full-time or part-time hourly position responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, outfitting and building new and used bicycles for Joe Bike customers. The Bike Mechanic is also expected to collaborate with shop managers and owners in order to contribute to the overall success of the company.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Troubleshoot and complete bike repairs and service, fix flats, install accessories, and build new bikes on the spot, maintaining open communication with customers to ensure quality service
Speak directly with customers to evaluate issues, recommend repairs and give helpful advice
Assist customers with bike and product sales, bike fits, test rides and gear fits
Under direction of sales manager, assist with receiving, tracking and communicating needs for additional parts and merchandise
Effectively communicate updated knowledge of new shop products to customers
Under direction of sales manager, assist with rotating inventory and displays as needed, keeping merchandise clean, organized and free of dust
Update Lightspeed Analytics database with repair and sale notes; call customers as needed
Contribute toward maintaining a positive work environment
Help promote products and service at Joe Bike through active and engaged participation in shop activities, goals, special events and community outreach, etc.
Enter new and returning customer information and demographics into Lightspeed Analytics in order to help build and maintain a thorough and comprehensive customer database for Joe Bike
Help maintain a positive image of Joe Bike among customers and the general public
Keep workbench, tools and mechanic areas clean, organized and free of debri and dust
Participate in general daily cleaning schedule, maintenance and upkeep of service area, kitchen, bathroom and customer floor
Meet monthly with management to collaborate and share ideas

Education/Experience:

Minimum of 2 years professional bike mechanic experience
Minimum of 2 years of retail experience
Necessary Skills and Traits:
A deep love for bikes and ample experience working on them; strong mechanical skills in both assembling, repairing and troubleshooting bikes
Strong work ethic and attention to detail
Team player who is willing to lend a hand and help with any task, big or small
Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills
Efficient time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks
Outgoing, enthusiastic, social and professional
Good verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work in a dynamic, multi-functional, multi-cultural environment
A great attitude and an openness to all types of bikes and people
Physical Demands:
Able to sit or stand and walk throughout the scheduled work shift
Able to lift and/or move up to 75 lbs.
