My little girl who was just two years old when I started BikePortland will graduate from high school today. ❤️😲🥲
Some of you might recall seeing my daughter Eleni at bike events over the years when she was just a wee one. It’s been a long time since she’s followed me to “work”. There was also that time when I shared a story about her first ride home alone from soccer practice.
Today, Eleni and her Roosevelt High School classmates will officially graduate.
Just thought this would be a fun milestone — and some fun photos! — to share.
And one more thing… BikePortland will be quiet today in observance of this special family day. (Thanks to the help of our subscribers and supporters, pretty soon we’ll have a staff so even if I need to step away, BikePortland won’t miss a beat.)

Congrats to both of you!
Remember Aurelia? She is a waitress & bartender.
I sure do Patrick. You two were a legendary biking duo. Great to hear from you!
Congrats! It goes by so fast!
Congrats! I’m sure this year was hard for all of you. Senior year fully remote must have been hard for her for sure. I was reading your recent post and you mentioned how one of your kids was 18. I remember reading a post of yours about letting your kid ride to school on her own and how you trailed them so they wouldn’t see you. I feel like it was just yesterday.
I just picked the “baby” of the family up from his first year of college. As Tom said, it goes by really fast. Congratulations to the family.
Yes, I remember her before she was old enough to ride! Thanks for making the Dude feel old af!
Congratulations to Eleni! And to all the resilient graduates in the Class of ‘21.
It can’t really have been that many years, Jonathan! Congratulations to you and Eleni and thanks, once more, for all you’ve done for us and for Portland during that time.
She’s lucky to have a great dad like you. Congrats on all you’ve accomplished in this town and your wonderful family. Keep it up!
NIce, congrats! I remember her crawling around your house or in the a rear bike carrier at many an event. 😉
I think Eleni’s local “bikie” fame was cemented with the first Easter Bike pics…on BP. Thanks for always sharing!
Just like our kids…you feed them and they grow up and out! Our bikie “Dread Pirate Roberts” – challenger of unjust bike laws* – is now in his late 20s and a sound engineer in Seattle.
*Sadly it looks like Vancouver may have our helmet law longer than Seattle/ King County…with the recent push to end theirs for adults…even though Vancouver did it to “match” Seattle/ KC.

Great post. Thanks for sharing. Congrats!
Thank you for sharing. My little daughter just turned 5 and my boy is 7 already. He rides a 20” MTB and she is on his for 16”. ANd they both started riding on my bike almost as soon as they could sit up straight. Seeing your daughter grow up cycling touched me deeply, as I can already see how my kids have grown.
Enjoy!
Congrats! My youngest just graduated high school as well. It does go by so quickly.
Congrats from the parent of another newly minted Roosevelt alum!
Go Riders
I’ve only been lurking since I briefly bumped out of town back in 2007 and lost my log-in, but I remember some of those early pics and now I feel old. Congrats Jonathan in moving into a new phase of being a parent!
Congrats!
Fantastic! It’s amazing how many times our children put a smile on our faces.
To a long loving family, never stop giving hugs to each other.
Thanks for sharing, congrats to her!!
Congratulations Eleni and family!
