POSITION SUMMARY:
The Planning and Development Department works with a wide range of public and private stakeholders to implement the region’s 2040 growth concept. Our work includes maintaining our region’s land use and transportation policy framework, investing in government, community, and local business efforts to help accomplish our shared goals, and establish partnerships with those who are affected by and can help influence the land use and transportation decisions that impact their quality of life in our region.

The Deputy Director of Planning and Development is a key leadership and management role in the department and in the agency. The Deputy Director works closely with the Planning and Development Director, department management team, Metro Council, and agency staff across multiple departments. The Deputy Director also represents Metro and the department with a diverse range of external partners in other public, private, and community based agencies. This position will direct and supervise staff in developing, managing, and implementing programs, projects, and policies across a wide spectrum of subject matter areas including transportation planning and policy, land use planning and policy, transportation project development, transit oriented development, brownfields, affordable housing, economic development and community engagement. This position also plays a leadership role in shaping the department’s legislative agenda and in developing long term funding strategies for transport ation and housing in partnership with Metro’s government affairs team.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, economics, geography, political science, public administration, public policy or a related field;
• Seven to ten years of specialized experience or operational management in urban planning, regional planning, land use planning, transportation planning or a related field; or
• Any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the classification duties and responsibilities
