Welcome to the latest installment of Portland Rider, a regular column shot and edited by local photojournalist Alex Milan Tracy.

Alex bumped into northeast Portland resident Becka Nethers and got her talking about her bike, her helmet, why she only rides a few times a week, and more. Hear what she had to say and view more photos of her in the video slideshow below…

Nice! Thank you for featuring a casual, occasional rider. I think Becka will help encourage more people to consider riding at least some of the time, on at least some of their trips. It’s not an all-or-nothing deal.

I’ve always liked the way Globe Bicycles doesn’t slap labels and brand names all over their bikes.

Cool interview btw!

I’m sure she’ll take a lot of flak here for being pro-helmet.

A helmet saved my life. I’ll sign up for some of that flak.

Good for her. I’ll be happy to share any and all “flak” with her regarding her pro-helmet stance.

Cute bike. I’d not heard of that brand.

The Globe series bikes are made by Specialized.
