Vigil for biking/walking safety tonight in SW Portland

See the notice below from Oregon Walks:

Pedestrian and Bike Safety Vigil Tonight
SW Portland neighbors hold vigil to raise awareness, remember Mara Rosanne Forsythe-Crane

WHAT
A silent vigil will be held at the intersection of SW Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway and Shattuck Road Thursday, December 20th, where Mara Rosanne Forsythe-Crane was struck and killed the morning of December 18th.

WHY
Early yesterday, a fatal crash occurred at the intersection of SW Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway and Shattuck Road. Twenty-seven year-old Mara Rosanne Forsythe-Crane was killed after being struck by a truck while she was attempting to cross the street. According to news reports, Ms Forsythe-Crane was crossing in the crosswalk with a “walk signal” indicating pedestrian right-of-way.

Hayhurst Neighborhood and other SW Portland Neighborhood Associations adjacent to Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway have had safety concerns for many years. B-H Highway has very few safe crossing areas. While the posted speed is 40 MPH, many drivers go much faster. Organizers want to draw attention to the need for greater pedestrian and bike safety along the B-H Highway corridor through SW Portland.

Hayhurst Neighborhood Association has three goals for the vigil. First, they wish to honor the memory of the young woman who lost her life in their neighborhood. Second, they want to remind all drivers that pedestrians and bicyclists are present at all times of the year, day and night. This means that drivers should use extra caution at intersections, especially during the stormy and dark Oregon winter. Finally, they wish to encourage the City of Portland to expand and expedite planning for pedestrian safety and bike access in SW Portland.

WHO
Everyone is welcome to attend. Neighbors will meet near the Muchas Gracias restaurant parking lot on the southeast corner of the intersection. Vigil organizers want everyone participating to be safe. Please wear reflective clothing and bring flashlights.
