As we mentioned yesterday, Congressman Jim Oberstar (D-MN) is currently on a tour promoting job creation through transportation infrastructure spending. Before coming to Portland, Oberstar stopped in Eugene to take a tour of stimulus funded projects. Joining him on the tour was Eugene Congressman Peter DeFazio. To get around, the two hopped in a pedicab from Emerald City Rickshaws which was pedaled by Portlander Ryan Hashagen (who owns Portland Pedalworks, the two businesses are sister companies).
Check the photo below the jump…
Hashagen, a dedicated citizen activist who helped the City craft pedicab regulations and recently delivered free ice cream to bikeway builders, was thrilled at the opportunity. He wrote via Facebook:
“Rep. Oberstar was great. He told us of how he had written the first legislative language to fund bike lanes federally & how that investment is showing results. We asked him to work on building Tricycle Lanes next…”
Nice work Ryan. Way to pedal and advocate for bikes at the same time!
Thanks for reading.

Emerald City Rickshaws is owned locally in Eugene by Cameron. They are our affiliated ‘sister’ company because we will work together on events and helping each other with ideas.
We love pedaling our Congressional Chariots. Any other Representatives or Senators want to give their feet a treat?! Put their heels on wheels!?
WTG, Ryan! Anybody who tells me all politicians are the same are not paying attention these Reps.
for those who have a policy crush on Jim Oberstar, is this considered “porn?”
OK, as an out-of-towner (Chi-town specifically) I find this to be totally chic-geek. That’s a style I subscribe to with gusto. Love that image of representatives being treated to a sweet ride! Thanks for noticing, and sharing.
Word on the street is that the pedicabs parked side-by-side blocking the river path made it hard from some folks to commute to work. Maybe single file next time guys? 🙂
Good work though!
Hi there,
As the official photographer for the event I can assure you we were parked single file and most people stopped or slowed down, like any responsible commuter would,to make sure everything was ok. then proceeded with their usual commute.
you may verify this by checking out my photographs at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/portlandpedalworks/sets/72157624800747917/
No impatient commuters were harmed in this event.
Pete! We love you, man!
