The frustration of many people in the community has reached a boiling point. The well over one-hundred comments on this site (and others), emails and phone calls I’ve received, and messages on local email lists leave little doubt that many Portlanders are confused and concerned over how the police have responded to recent crashes.

Calling the intersection, “inherently dangerous” City Commissioner of Transportation Sam Adams had PDOT crews close the right-turn section of N. Greeley Avenue that has claimed two victims in as many weeks.
Many people have heard about Portland’s large and talented crop of custom bike builders, but not everyone knows that this burgeoning industry reaches statewide.
Much like our state’s heralded craft brewing industry, Oregon has become a hotbed for builders of handcrafted bicycles.

Responding to concerns about the intersection at N. Interstate and Greeley where a person riding a bicycle was killed two weeks ago and another cyclist was struck by a car this morning, I just got word from Commissioner Adams’ office that PDOT’s head traffic engineer Rob Burchfield has made the decision to temporarily prohibit cars from turning right on N. Greeley from N. Interstate.
Just a final reminder to vote yes on Measure 49. This is our chance to save Oregon and save open spaces (that just so happen to be great places to ride a bike.)
Ballots are due by 8:00pm tonight so the mail is no use. You’ll have to take your ballot to an official drop-off location.

A cyclist was hit this morning at the same spot where Brett Jarolimek was killed two weeks ago.
According to tips I’ve received from several readers, the collision took place this morning at around 8:40 am.
Witness Kristen West says a cyclist, whom the Oregonian has identified as Siobhan Doyle, was coming down N. Interstate and just as she approached the intersection with Greeley, a car (driven by 52 year-old Lisa Wheeler) that was also traveling south on Interstate turned right and struck the cyclist.
