Public meeting will address speedy cycling concerns

Some neighbors of Mt. Tabor Park continue to have concerns about cyclists going too fast on downhill roads inside the park.

These concerns brought several stakeholders together yesterday for a meeting at the Police Bureau’s Southeast Precinct offices.

In the meeting were SE Bike Patrol officer Robert Pickett, Traffic Division Commander Mark Kruger, SE Precinct Commander Derrick Foxworth, PDOT traffic safety guru Greg Raisman, bike lawyer Mark Ginsberg, members of the Friends of Mt. Tabor, and several Parks Department officials.

Don’t let dancing mobs and “anarchy” scare you away from Last Thursday on Alberta tonight. If you do, you’ll miss a chance to see the Clown House at its best.
This month they’ve got a very special guest. Captain Ace Hole from Chicago, Illinois will perform “high-flying stunts” on a triple-stacked tall bike.

The crew has been working hard to get the yard ready for action and with another gorgeous night in store, you know the Clown House will be rocking tonight.

Blumenauer to help make U.S. Capitol more bike-friendly

Former Portland City Commissioner and now U.S. Congressman Earl Blumenauer has been tapped by Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, to make the grounds around the U.S. Capitol more bike-friendly.

Pelosi has put her Chief Adminstrative Officer Dan Beard in charge of making this happen. One of the first steps he took was to contact Blumenauer’s office for advice.

BTA bike safety program robbed in Albany

A kids bike safety program run by the Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA) in Albany (25 miles south of Salem) was robbed over the weekend.

According to BTA Executive Director Evan Manvel thieves broke into a storage trailer and took nine Giant brand bicycles. The bikes were used in bike safety programs that reach nearly 75% of all fifth-graders in Albany.

“The loss of the bikes impacts its current classes as well as future efforts. With an insufficient fleet, kids will lose on-bike practice time.”
