After a career with the Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA) that has spanned nearly a decade, Scott Bricker has been named their new executive director.

Bricker has served in an interim capacity since July when former executive director Evan Manvel stepped down.

His selection comes after a nationwide search and a final decision made by the BTA’s Board of Director’s this weekend.

Bricker has been with the BTA since 1998, when the organization had just three full-time staff and focused their advocacy solely on Portland. Now, the BTA is a regional and national player (Bricker recently flew to Washington D.C. to testify in front of a Congressional committee) with 15 full-time staffers (and another 15 seasonal and part-time) and 4,500 members.

We have hundreds of bikes to complete, so we are inviting all volunteers to come into our shop and make these bikes safe and functional for these great kids. If you are highly skilled or would like to practice your mechanic work with a shop-full of tools, this is a great opportunity for you.

BTA: “We’re at a turning point in Portland’s bike history”

Buffered Bike Lane with a bike symbol and arrow pointing forward

“In twenty years, when we have cycle-tracks on all arterials and a full network of bike boulevards across our city and bike training in every school, we’ll remember this decade as the time when we asked for change, and we got it.”
–From a BTA Action Alert
to support the Safe, Sound, and Green
Streets initiative.

The Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA) has issued an action alert to its members to rally support for PDOT’s Safe, Sound, and Green Streets campaign.

Spearheaded by Transportation Commissioner Sam Adams, the funding initiative would include $54 million for bicycle and pedestrian safety improvements. Among those improvements are over 100 miles of new bicycle boulevards. (For a breakdown of how the money will be spent, see this comment).

During negotiations for the funding plan, Scott Bricker, interim executive director of the BTA, played a key role in helping increase the amount of funding that would go the bike safety projects.

Bike Walk Vote – Measure 49 gathering

Buffered Bike Lane with a bike symbol and arrow pointing forward

SUBJECT: Join Bike Walk Vote at the Lucky Lab (915 SE Hawthorne Blvd) Monday the 22nd

An invitation to join us….

Bike Walk Vote works to elect candidates who support bicycling and walking. We also support and oppose key ballot measures.

Since formed in 2004, we’ve managed to lend a hand in some key races, from getting Sam Adams to pull out his tight city council race to getting Robert Liberty to upset an incumbent metro councilor.

This year, we’re working to help pass Measure 49, a key measure that will help us have the ability to plan communities that people can walk and bike in.

We’re a low-budget, high-impact group and rely on grassroots marketing to get our word out. That means we need YOUR help!

So please come by the Lucky Lab, 915 SE Hawthorne, on Monday, Oct 22nd, from 6 to 8pm, and grab some flyers to distribute to bicyclists about YES on Measure 49 and Bike Walk Vote PAC. You can also chat with us about our past and future plans, and share your thoughts!

Hope to see you there!

Here’s the latest from Portland’s only bike-oriented political action committee, Bike Walk Vote. Incidentally, the former executive director of the BTA, Evan Manvel is now working with them so I expect to be hearing a lot more from these folks during the upcoming political election season…

Here’s their latest message about a gathering on Monday to raise support from the bike community to pass Measure 49:
