B IS FOR BICYCLE
-
Broadway Bridge (West side – overlooking Union Station)

By bicycle we go finding adventure in the letter B. Here is how it works: The bikefun is up to you: bring a ride idea or destination that is A) in Central Portland (not in the boonies) B) All Ages (sorry no bars), C) Free & D) Starts with the letter B. Such as… Blowing bubbles by BigPink or Bicycling Belmont bellowing “Bikes are D’Bomb” to bystanders. Before we ride, we’ll throw all our the ideas into a Bike Helmet and randomly choose our bikefun for the rest of the night. B there or B square. Note: bring all your own props yo.

Yay, you\’re back! We missed you.
Just like the pusher man, get ya hooked and then hold out on you.
Can\’t you see that I\’m shaking here! Gimme my BP fix man, come on!
HOORAY BIKE PORTLAND IS BACK!!!!!
Whoa, he sprockettes know how to throw down a good time with the rolling dance party! That sh** is tight! Hula hoops AND breakdancing, all up in the Esplanade, with the lycras rolling by.
If you missed it, you lose!
No photos to offer, but we did make it out to the Tabor races for the second week in a row today. As always, nice stuff.
Did see a rider go down near the playground due to an errant soccer ball. Racing in public parks is a tough balancing act.
Less excusable, however, were the three near misses I saw because of unaware folks walking unleased dogs on the road.
Does OBRA need more volunteers to yell \”RIDERS!\”? I didn\’t see any from the top of the hill to the bottom on the back side both coming in and going out. In fact, as we made our way back down the south face, we had to right two downed warning signs. (actually, as we sat watching the last lap we figured it out: It was the wind from the pack knocking at least one of them down. Kinda cool, according to my three-year-old.)
And the beat goes on! Pedalpalooza has been amazing this year… more people than ever.
I just got back from the Graffiti Ride and the Sprockettes Dance Party…
The Graffiti Ride had at least 40-50 people. The leader, Hunter Shobe, knew a lot about urban street culture. It was very informative. Here\’s a photo from the ride (view entire gallery).
And the Sprockettes rocked it tonight on the Esplanade.. Easily 140 or so people!
Here\’s a shot of the action (view entire gallery):
woohoo!
B if for Bicycle report (by Carye Bye)
Leader: Carye Bye / each person led or contributed to an event that happened during the ride
Date: 6/13/07
Start time: 7 pm
Duration: 2.5 hours
Approx. Distance: 2 mi(?) circling mostly around downtown
Number of riders: 10 (11 if you count Barbie)
Synopsis of ride: The ride was about finding an adventure in the letter B. Each rider wrote down something to do that begins with B, and then we randomly pulled the Bike Fun task out of a hat – we blew bubbles and kisses, bowed, barked, we\’re baptised as born-again bicyclists, built bird gliders, biked back and forth on bridges, boogied to bumping beats with babes.
Photos and a detailed ride report can be read here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/redbat/sets/72157600358408779/
High points: this ride was completely experimental, but 10 bicyclists were up for the bike fun, and we never got tired of Bs. Barking in front of Powell\’s Books was absolutely beautiful, and ending the ride at the Sprockettes party at dusk with fortune-telling with Ms. Bronte was perfect.
Low points: None. no expections – a great time!
Would you do it again? If so, What would you change? I might, maybe next we\’ll look for Adventure in the letter P. Change: Confusing everyone with the exact location of Broadway Bridge for the start. I hope we didn\’t miss you.

Bike to Skate and Potluck ride report by Jeff Bernards:
Name of Ride: Bike to Skate Part I: The Family Ride
Leader: Jeff Bernards & Kim Bria (skate instructor)
Date: 6/13/07
Start time: 6pm
Duration: 3.5 hours
Approx. Distance: 10 miles
Number of riders: 9 adults and 1 child
Synopsis of ride: I had a meeting place but only 5 people met under the Hawthorne Bridge, 2 decided to do next weeks ride, 7 people met at the Skating Rink.
High points: Some experienced skaters showed their stuff and the kid was eager to learn how.
Low points: Low turnout had 23 last year, hopefully next weeks adult ride will draw more interest.
Would you do it again? This is the 3rd or 4th year for this ride, I like it because you ride on the bike path all the way to the skating rink (hence no cars) and you get to try something new, that\’s fun and a great workout too.
If so, What would you change? I think a little later start time and maybe not 2 Bike to Skates?, I\’ll report in next week with Bike to Skate Part II.
