Through this AmeriCorps partnership, we will be adding a new component of the SmartTrips program as a pilot project to reach out to parents and faculty at a Safe Routes to School (SR2S) elementary school (Lewis) in southeast Portland. The AmeriCorps member will work to maximize participation by parents and children in SmartTrips Southeast activities with the overall goal of reducing drive alone trips and increase trips by walking, bicycling, transit, carpooling, and car sharing through: 1) Involving Lewis Elementary School students, parents, and faculty in the SmartTrips and Safe Routes to Schools programs through order-form follow-up, one-on-one contact, and small neighbor house meetings. 55%; 2) Coordinate volunteers and provide encouragement and education activities. 30%; 3) Outreach events. 15%. NWSA Center: Lower Columbia Center Type of position: Portland-Vancouver Individual Placement Service Dates: March 26, 2007 – September 11, 2007 Length of Term: 900 hours
