How to make "beer-view" mirrors

Ben Salzberg, a local computer expert and guitarist for bikey band the Trash Mountain Boys, has finally shared his secret knowledge of how to make rear-view cycling mirrors out of a spoke and a beer cap.

He calls them “beer-view” mirrors and has published detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to make them on the popular DIY website, Instructables.

Veteran BikePortland readers will remember hearing about these back in December 2005 when I wondered if these things could actually make rear-view mirrors (a cycling fashion faux pas in some circles) cool.

I think they’re pretty nifty. And hey, Ben’s a rock star so they must be cool. Go make some yourself and find out.
