On the night of August 18, 2006 my bike was stolen on 30th and Belmont 20 . . Of course it helped that this was the one time I merely locked it to the wheel and not the frame(I never do this, must have been in a hurry). It was(is) a red Townie Electra cruiser with small paint damage to the mid-bar and a partially undone right handle leather strap. Furthermore the rear fender is gray with an orange strap.

Just noticed the Willamette Week has devoted a cover story to bike theft. They sent out intern Josh Silverman to steal his own bike in broad daylight to see if anyone would stop him (no one did).
They also made a video documenting the experiment.
They got the idea for their story from a video called “Bike Thief” by The Neistat Brothers that was all over the web a few months ago. In that video actors also stole their own bikes but used power tools on busy New York City streets. No one even batted an eye.
Self-described “transportation diplomat” Aaron Tarfman has launched a new blog. “Innovative Transport” will chronicle his bikey adventures and share his insights on urban planning and infrastructure.
Tarfman is a professional architect who rode his bicycle across country from New York City to Portland in 2003 and has become a devoted volunteer and friendly fixture on the local bike scene ever since. He plays an active role with the Exchange Cycle Touring Club, Shift, and a fledgling group advocating for more car free streets.
You might remember my post last winter about Tarfman’s fantastic collection of virtual tours of Portland bike routes.
It’s been almost a month since I last wrote about the Jammin’ 95.5 radio show story, but I haven’t forgotten about it.
Even though many people have thanked me for a job well-done and congratulated me on a “victory”, for some reason I still don’t feel like celebrating.
I have also heard from several of you, both in emails and in person, that you are curious about where things stand. Here’s what I know…
The details of a hit-and-run crash in Washington County last Saturday have been making their way around the web. Friends of the victim are hoping to find the driver in order to bring them to justice.
The victim—the mother of 2 year-old triplets—was forced off the road by a pickup towing a boat trailer and is in the hospital with a severe arm injury.
John Shader, a coach with Portland Team in Training who was riding just behind the crash, said to be on the lookout for a “shiny bright red late model pickup truck towing a very new looking red boat, possibly a 23 foot Centurian model.”
Filmmaker Dan Kaufman visited injured Zoobomber Reverend Phil in the hospital last night.
Rev Phil suffered a “spiral fracture” of two bones in his leg after crashing on Sunday’s Zoobomb run. Kaufman has posted the video interview on his website.
When asked about the alleged ice-throwing that led to his crash, Rev Phil said,
Last night’s weekly Zoobomb run turned ugly when someone hurled ice at approaching riders.
The ice cause several major crashes, including a “nasty” compound leg fracture to local cycling personality and film promoter Reverend Phil. Here’s the word I got from a Zoobomber who was on the ride:
“Last night on zoobomb around one of the tight turns, someone waiting on the side of the road at one of the tight turns threw a bunch of ice at/on passing zoobombers, resulting in a pileup. it’s happened before, but this time some people bit it pretty hard and revphil experienced a nasty compound leg fracture, bone sticking out and everything. we’re taking it pretty seriously and would perhaps even like to pursue legal action, but for now we’re just putting the word out that that’s a really f*$#@#* up thing to do and that it’s not OK to break people’s bones for fun.”
It will be interesting to see how this situation develops. More details to come.

New Belgium’s Tour de Fat rolled through Portland Saturday and the crew from Fort Collins, Colorado put on one of the best bike parties of the year.
It got started with the craziest bike parade I’ve ever done (with clothes on). I have no idea where all the zany, outlandish bikes and people came from, but they showed up in force and downtown Portland will never be the same.
I heard our police escorts were a bit surprised to see so many riders. They expected 150 and closer to 400 showed up.
my bike was stolen from the NE Safeway on Broadway today Aug. 18, at 6:15pm.
The bike is a Giant Cypress model hybrid. Its charcoal gray, 2006.

I had my Giant Warp DS-2 full suspension mountain bike stolen at Portland State University on July 24, 2006. It was locked to their bike racks with a cable lock between the Smith Center and Cramer Hall. I locked it there at 7:30 am and I saw it around noon; however, we I came out of class at 5 pm, it was gone. I reported it to campus public safety. the bike was red, silver, and black. I have the original sales receipt and s/n.
